Named “Fremont,” Microsoft’s latest web service, a free and very search-able classified ad service is nearing release. Although only currently available for use by Microsoft testers and employees it is expected that the service will go public within a few weeks, perhaps sooner.
Fremont is designed as an on-line community marketplace combining ad listings with social networking and other community features. Perhaps in a move that will separate Microsoft’s classifieds from the rest is its customizable integration into Windows Live.
Perhaps surprisingly,”Microsoft will give developers the ability to customize the service, which runs on top of the Windows Live platform. Developers will be able to integrate the listings with Microsoft’s Virtual Earth, MSN Alerts, MSN Messenger, Spaces, MSN Shopping, and several other Windows Live offerings.”
